– April was a good month for Carly Pipkin.
The Junior Olympic gymnast from Gilroy competed at both the
State and Regional Level 8 gymnastics championships, taking first
in the uneven bars at the state level and winning the floor
competition at regionals.

The Junior Olympic gymnast from Gilroy competed at both the State and Regional Level 8 gymnastics championships, taking first in the uneven bars at the state level and winning the floor competition at regionals.
Pipkin trains with Airborne Gymnastics, a nationally ranked gymnastics training center located in Santa Clara, for competition levels 5 through Elite. Her many hours of commuting and working out at the gym – about 20 hours a week – paid off on April 10 when she competed in the Norcal State Championship gymnastics meet, held at San Jose State University. Some 175 competitors performed over the two-day State Championship meet, grouped into nine total age divisions.
Pipkin competed in the Junior B division, in which she captured the State Uneven Bars Championship Title with a score of 9.5. The Airborne Level 8 Team, comprised of 11 gymnasts ranging in age from 10 to 15, has had an undefeated season this year – taking the first-place team award at every competition it attended this season.
Their performance at the State Championship meet was no different – together as a team they captured the State Level 8 Team Championship Title.
Pipkin’s All-Around score of 37.05 placed her third in her age group at the State Championships and qualified her to compete in the Regional Championships which were held in Long Beach.
Pipkin competed on April 23 – the day after her 12th birthday – winning the Regional Floor Exercise Championship Title with a score of 9.5. She placed second on the uneven bars with a 9.4.
