Tuesday night.
Holding a relatively comfortable seven-point lead as the final quarter commenced, a fourth straight victory to open the season seemed likely for the Gilroy High girls varsity basketball team.
Not quite.
The Mustangs watched as host Mountain View turned the tables, outscoring GHS 20-7 in the fourth quarter to steal a 54-48 victory Tuesday night.
Senior Ashley Lambert landed 3-of-6 from beyond the arc en route to a team-high 13 points, and Chelsea Hill posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mustangs did surrender 18 turnovers in the game.
As they have in the previous three games, GHS started fast and grabbed a 12-3 lead after one quarter. The lead dwindled to 22-18 at the break before the Mustangs (3-1) put a little breathing room between them and the Spartans (5-1) into the fourth.
The Mustangs have a week off and resume non-league play next Tuesday at Santa Teresa.
