A young girl riding a bicycle was struck by a car at the intersection of Hirasaki Avenue and Sorrento Court Saturday morning, according to police.

At 11:39 a.m., Gilroy police officers arrived at the scene to find the youth and the driver of the car. After the incident, the driver of the car put the juvenile in his car and drove to a nearby residence looking for medical attention.

The youth, who was not wearing her helmet, was airlifted to a trauma center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was not injured and was allowed to go home after being questioned, police said. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office will conduct further investigation. At this point, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor, police said.
