Both of Gilroy’s water polo teams’ seasons have come to a close.

The varsity girls lost the Tri-County Athletic League consolation game 8-1 to the Salinas Cowboys on Saturday, eliminating the Mustangs from a spot in the Central Coast Section playoffs. The team had made an excellent run to cap off the season, beating Robert Louis Stevenson (16-12) and Notre Dame (9-8) before falling to Santa Catalina in the semifinals (14-4) and the Cowboys for third place in the TCAL.

The girls team finished 6-8 on the season.

Varsity Boys

The boys team saw their season end on a high note after losing the first round of TCAL Championships to Palma 8-1.

Rebounding against Watsonville, the Mustangs won 9-7 through hat tricks by Eric Boe and Daniel Shields and goals by Corey and Kyle Nettleblad and Eddie Malick.

Shields had six steals and two assists while Malick distributed five assists in the victory. Goalie Ethan Fortuna also made several clutch saves to help give GHS the win.

The boys team finished with a 2-6 record.
