I just read a letter from Martha Quintana and Alejandra Salas asking for help with hospital charges she feels are Wal-Mart’s responsibility.
She complains that candy she bought at Wal-Mart was spoiled and when she went to Wal-Mart to complain, they suggested she take her kids to the hospital. Now why on earth would Ms. Salas think that Wal-Mart’s suggestion to take her kid’s to the doctor somehow makes them responsible for the bill.
Let’s talk about personal responsibility. Did Ms. Salas check the expiration date on the candy? Personally, I would not seek medical advice from Wal-Mart if I felt my kids had ingested something potentially dangerous. I am sure Wal-Mart offered to refund or replace the product that was bad. I am also sure that Wal Mart was correct to refer her to the manufacturer, Marquez Brothers Dba, El Mexicano, for any financial liability.
This brings me to my final point. What possible logic is Martha Quintana using with this example of an unfortunate incident somehow leads to the conclusion that allowing a Super Wal-Mart will spell an end to life in Gilroy as we know it?
This is just a continuation of the scorched earth campaign being embarked upon by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union bent on organizing Wal-Mart. These same people are now weighing a referendum campaign which will rob Gilroy of much needed funds for police and fire services. When you come across a petition for a referendum to block economic incentives for new large businesses coming to Gilroy, do not sign it. The sooner we get these businesses built and producing sales tax revenues, the sooner we will get that much needed third fire station.
