After dropping its first game of the 11-year-old Section 5 Tournament on Saturday to the Campbell All-Stars, 6-2, the Gilroy American contingent knew they needed to get back on the winning path to keep its postseason alive.
Building an early 11-3 over Hollister on Sunday, Gilroy managed to stave off a late rally en route to an 11-7 victory and another breath of life in the tournament.
A sluggish effort with the bats on Saturday turned into a highlight reel Sunday. Zach Waller led the way with three hits, while Nate Medrano, Anthonee Bartholic, and Larry Chacon Jr. handled the pitching responsibilities.
Next up for Gilroy as it battles up the losers bracket is the Los Gatos All Stars on tonight.
