The Gilroy Police Department responded to the scene of an accident at the intersection of Monterey and 10th streets after a box truck and a four-door car collided at approximately 9:20 a.m. Thursday, according to GPD Officer Andrew Viale.
The Gilroy Fire Department and Santa Clara County Emergency Medical Services also arrived on scene to tend to the two drivers, who police say walked away from the wreck complaining of pain but did not suffer any major injuries.
“It appears that the box truck was coming southbound on Monterey Street while the four-door vehicle was traveling westbound on 10th Street,” Viale said. “Both drivers say they had the green light.”
The force of the collision caused the truck to land on its right side, while the four-door Mitsubishi was totaled due to a smashed front end.
Police are unsure if either vehicle was speeding at this time, according to Viale, and authorities have not located any witnesses to the collision.
After a tow truck and workers cleared the vehicles and debris from the roadway following an initial investigation by police, the intersection was opened back up to traffic by 10 a.m.
