CALLER 1: This is in response to your article “New Hoops Players Create a Buzz at GHS.” Maybe you should do an article about all our football players who have transferred to Oak Grove High School. The starting quarterback lives in Gilroy and another player (inaudible) is from Gilroy.
GREEN PHONE: Glad you brought it up about the Gilroy football players who are at Oak Grove. You failed to mention about four who are at Palma. The bottom line is there is a lot of transferring going on in this state, and Gilroy is not the only school affected.
CCS rules state that if a family moves to another community and declares residency, their children are eligible to compete for their new school. That is the case for two of the three basketball players who transferred to GHS.
As for Kevin Vye, the young man you were referring to who is a three-year starting quarterback at Oak Grove, his family does live in Gilroy but his father teaches in the Oak Grove School District, which makes him eligible to attend and play football for the Eagles.
