From left, Chamber President Mark Turner, Dispatch CEO Dan Pulcrano and Mayor Roland Velasco stand together with an edition of the Dispatch, which has been in Gilroy for 150 years.

Business and political leaders joined Gilroy Dispatch staff on Sept. 6, for an early celebration of the newspaper’s 150th anniversary at Old City Hall.

The paper received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Rep. Jimmy Panetta, and Mayor Roland Velasco read a document from Rep. Zoe Lofgren congratulating the newspaper for its service since Sept. 12, 1868 to Gilroy, which was entered into the Congressional Record last week.

Visitors looked at displays of old front pages and historical photos from past local news events. Today’s newspaper includes a commemorative special section.
