GILROY – Headstart outlasted Beale Properties 58-43 Wednesday at Solorsano Gymnasium as the Gilroy Community Services Department’s adult basketball program came to an exciting conclusion.
Each of the four league Championship Series went the full three games, including Headstart’s conquest in the Men’s D League.
Headstart pulled even with Beale Properties in the best 2-of-3 competition with a 47-45 squeaker Tuesday. Bob Lemmon scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half as the Nurserymen rallied from a 19-16 deficit. Bill Christopher accounted for 17 points for the winners, Armando Ocampo 15 and Shawn Teacher 13 for Beale Properties.
Don Hall produced 19 points and Lemmon followed with 17 in Wednesday’s concluding game. The teams battled to a 20-20 draw by intermission. Ocampo paced Beale Properties with 19 points.
Sparks earned the Women’s League title with a 46-37 nod over defending champion Above the Rim. Emelia Flores drained two three-point field goals and Melanie Arner poured in 12 points as the Sparks built a 28-13 halftime lead. Shanah Keyes popped through five field goals in the second half for the Sparks to finish with a game-high 16 digits. Flores provided 13 points. Marta Salas led the Rim offense with 14 points.
Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-RIo Nilo netted the Men’s E League crown with a 51-29 decision over Gilroy Young Plants Tuesday at Solorsano Gym.
Tony Werner, Andres Espinosa and Tony Maquinalez hit 3-pointers in the first half as the Pros raced to a 28-10 lead. Werner led the winners with 13 points, with Espinosa good for 11. Robert Silvia managed nine points, Skyler Thornton seven for Gilroy Young Plants.
Neil Garrett and Sergio Montenegro combined for 42 points as FFC edged Gaeta’s Taqueria 64-63 for the Men’s C League title Tuesday.
Mark Cisneros drained 12 points, Richard Klauer 11 in the first half as Gaeta’s, the defending league kingpin, built a 34-32 lead.
Cisneros topped the Taqueria attack with 17 points, with Klauer good for 15, David Herrerra 12. Garrett led all scorers with 26 points.
