Gilroy – Sign up or join a team for the Saturday through Sunday Relay For Life at Christmas Hill Park. Cancer survivors may also sign up, join a team or register online and participate in the survivor lap at 10am Saturday.

Relay For Life is an overnight event designed to bring together those who have been touched by cancer. It celebrates survivors and raises money to help the American Cancer Society. Its mission is to save lives, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back. Teams gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

10th Anniversary Children’s Rally Saturday

Gilroy – Victory Outreach Gilroy Church is celebrating their 10th anniversary with a Children’s Rally, from 10am to 3:30pm, Saturday at San Ysidro Park. There will be free food, games, prizes and an appearance by Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero.

Sexual Assault Awareness Workshop Wednesday

Gilroy – A free workshop on sexual assault prevention and intervention will be held from 6 to 8pm, Wednesday, at the new Gilroy Police headquarters, 7301 Hanna St. The event will share information from police and advocates from Community Solutions, a nonprofit that answered more than 100 sexual assault crisis calls from October 2005 to March 2006. Parents are encouraged to attend with their teenagers and pre-teens.

“One in three young women and one is six young men will experience sexual assault before age 18, according to sexual assault research,” said Debbie Ruiz, an advocate with Community Solutions.

The workshop follows a series of rapes reported in Gilroy this spring.

Spanish interpreters are available and refreshments will be served.

Water Wise Gardening Program at Gilroy Library

Gilroy – Join the Master Gardeners at 7pm Wednesday at the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St., for a free program on Water Wise Gardening featuring local landscaper Dennis Roath, who has been in the business for many years and teaches classes.

Refreshments will be served.
