Dear Editor:
I find myself compelled to comment on the column of April 9 written by the all-knowing Dennis Taylor.
Could you please give me the facts that support your statement that Mr. Mark Zappa would like to trash the Constitution? That is a serious accusation.
I have heard the statement “I support the troops but I don’t support President Bush.” I have yet to find anyone that can sufficiently explain that statement to me or anyone I know.
Mr. Taylor, you may bristle at the statement “Operation Iraqi Freedom” but by the looks on the faces of the Iraqi people, freedom is what I see. You said you would not be at the rally and that did not surprise me at all, but if you would have been there you could have supported the sending of letters and gifts to our troops in Iraq. You may even have been educated to some extent.
Here is another fact that you really need to get straight. The program that South Valley Community Church is putting on is not a fundraiser. No, I am not a member of South Valley Community Church, I am a member of Morgan Hill Bible Church and we are doing the same program. I would invite you up to see first hand what is taking place so you can be duly informed. Since you refer to God in your column you would feel right at home – we try to honor Him there.
You may be right, some signs may have been placed on public property and that is not where they should go. I know when working on the school bond we did try not to have them placed on public property.
I was glad to see that your dislike was not only for the church, but you don’t like pizza parlors either. At least you are consistent.
Perhaps some people don’t understand why the separation of church was an issue when instated. It was put in because our founding fathers did not want the government mandating a state religion like they had just came out from under. I can’t find anywhere that individuals or government can’t have an opinion on the subject.
I have met few people that are soured on as many things as you are. I also know that people from South Valley Community Church and Morgan Hill Bible church or any other church that I know of are not perfect, but we worship One who is!
Again, I would invite you to come, see and judge for yourself.
