An Oct. 7 collision in Gilroy turned fatal after the driver of a motorcycle that smashed into another vehicle succumbed to his injuries last week, according to a press release from the Gilroy Police Department issued Thursday.
Officers responded to the scene on the 2300 block of Hecker Pass at approximately 3 p.m., and emergency personnel were able to stabilize Baugher before transporting him to a trauma center via helicopter with life-threatening injuries, police said. Harold Baugher, 45 of San Martin, died on Oct. 15.
During the course of the initial investigation—headed by the GPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team—police preliminarily determined that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the cause for the collision. The driver of the other vehicle, a 43-year-old Gilroy man, did not suffer any injuries, police said.
The result of the investigation will be forwarded to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review and a determination as to whether there was any criminal wrongdoing, GPD Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said in the release.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the fatal collision to call Andrew Viale with the GPD Major Accident Investigation Team at (408) 846-0350. Parties wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at 1-800-782-7463 (1-800-78-CRIME).
