It’s Time to Tell the Administration That Enough is Enough
Dear Editor,
Before I’m of any political affiliation such as Democrat, Republican and/or Independent, I’m an American first.
The Constitution of the United States is in danger and if we the people sit idle and let this administration continue to break the laws of this great land, I fear for the future of our families.
In Europe, the government fear the people and in the USA, the people fear the government. We can change that.

Take Advantage of Wonderful Open Air Market and Music Downtown
Dear Editor,
A week ago, I joined about 300 other Gilroyans in what is becoming the best deal in town, Fifth Street Live Music and Open Air Market (on Fifth Street between Monterey and Eigleberry).
After a full day stuck in the office I finally made it to the market about 5pm. It’s a small market so far, but you can’t beat the prices or the quality and every week it gets a little bigger. I met my husband for dinner at Los Pericos, sat outside and had a terrific chicken tostada while listening to the band warm up. Across the street, Gilroy Flowers set out buckets of fresh cut flowers and heat tolerant hanging baskets. By 6:30 California Fun Jump had a bounce house going for the kids and the raffle had started. We strolled from vendor to vendor buying cherries, onions, garlic, tomatoes, fresh salsa, apricots, white nectarines, peaches, melons, strawberries, celery, lettuce, beets, cauliflower, cabbage and rosemary soap. Once I got home I realized I forgot to get some organic dried peaches. Next week. The sun settled behind the buildings so the evening turned out to be absolutely gorgeous. I sat and listened to a great band, The 7th Wave, from 7 to 9pm.
This is the third year for Fifth Street Live, and the first year for the market.
Friday, the Christine Ferrari Swing Band is scheduled to perform and the market will be back.
When I lived in New York, long ago now, we couldn’t wait to spend the evening at one of their great block parties. They were few and far between and everybody turned out for them. This is where we need some help in Gilroy. We have the start of a really nice market, not just once or twice, but every Friday night through Sept. 14, but we need Gilroyans to come downtown between 5 and 8:30 Friday nights and support the market. These vendors bring us such wonderful fruits and veggies, we want them to be able to keep coming all summer.
Come after work, on your way home, before going out for dinner or after a little bowling. Let’s all help make sure we never have to say, “well, we had a farmers market once, but nobody came so it just stopped.” Bring chairs, bring friends and enjoy the free concert, this is community at its best, don’t miss out!
