GILROY – The Lady Celtics remained unbeaten in Girls 6-7 Grade competition Saturday with a 13-8 nod over the Spurs in Gilroy Community Services Department play at Solorsano Gymnasium.
Jennifer Rose scored four of her game-high six points in the first half as the Celtics built an 8-4 advantage. Emily Loera canned five points, while Kristen Vonderworth, Rebecca Dickson, Carmen Pichardo and Lisa Grisham continued to produce sound defensive play. Lydia Teschera, Geralyn Moon, Elissa Torres and Ariel Payne each drilled one basket for the 2-2 Spurs.
Angel Senior struck for 18 points as the 3-2 Monarchs defeated the Kings 26-17. Sovannida Nou added four points for the winners, while Kelsey Ramirez poured in eight points, Karen Blodgett five for the Kings.
Rebekah Konar exploded for eight points as the Lady Fab Five defeated the Liberty, 20-18. Kaitlyn Muaroka hustled to four points and 10 rebounds for the Fab Five. Desiree Pierce scored 12 Liberty points.
Boys’ 8-10 Grade:
The Eastside Ballerz and the Rockets primed for Saturday’s showdown with victories Saturday at South Valley Junior High School gym.
Joe Gallo scored 17 points, Ryan Costa 15 as Eastside edged the Ballerz, 49-36. John Funkhouser drilled five 3-pointers on the way to 21 Ballerz points.
Brandon Harrell popped in 11 points and Aaron Foster added eight as the 4-1 Rockets topped the 76ers 34-16. Frank Tomasetti scored six points and added four blocked shots for the Rockets. Matt Shields delivered six points for the 76ers.
Jacob Dexter scored 18 points to lead the Sonics past the Huskers 38-31. Kevin James bagged one 3-pointer in a 13-point showing for the Huskers.
Girls’ 8-10 Grade:
Amanda Spellman netted 16 points Saturday as co-leader Sparks (4-1) defeated the Celtics 23-9 Saturday at South Valley.
Breanna Steele and Caitlin Chisolm paced the Sparks defense and Lindsey Valadez was the club’s leading rebounder. Tiana Louis scored six points and Catilyn Pierotti drilled a 3-pointer for the Lady Celtics.
Deborah Senior ripped the nets for 23 points and Cristol Bonowski added 10 as the 4-1 Monarchs topped the Queens of the Court 39-18. Amber Etienne struck for eight points and Elizabeth Komar sank a 3-pointer for the Queens.
Boys’ 6-7 Grade:
Lukas Fortino connected for one 3-pointer on the way to a team-high nine points Saturday as the unbeaten Orange Crush defeated the Knicks 31-19 at Solorsano Gym.
Shaquille Johnson dropped in three baskets in the fourth period for the Crush. Steven Valdez scored four Knicks points.
Sean Hale delivered six points as the Magic held off the Clippers 18-14. Raul Quintanar and Richard Sotelo aided the Magic cause with three points each. Tyler Price notched six points for the Clippers.
Joaquin Silva muscled in 16 points as the Suns defeated the Blue Devils 38-27. Nathan Kassel managed 13 points, Mario Cid eight for the Devils.
Boys’ 5 Grade:
The Magic won twice Saturday to move to 5-0 atop the five-team lead at Solorsano Gym.
Quillan McJunkin scored 12 points and Jorge Sanchez and Manuel Ybarra each provided five rebounds as the Magic defeated the Warriors 29-7. McJunkin meshed 12 points and Sanchez added nine points, 11 rebounds and seven steals in a 31-13 nod over the Blazers. Gavin Menges scored six Blazer points.
Allen Silhanek tallied 11 points to power the Spurs past the Blazers 17-14. Nick Chang made four points and pulled down four rebounds for the winners, while David Guenther garnered three rebounds and one steal. Menges scored 10 Blazer points.
Girls’ 5 Grade:
The Sparks improved to 5-0 Saturday with a 20-10 win over the Blazers.
Lauren Rhodes tallied eight points and Chelsea Hill hit for six for the winners. Cassidy Daley and Jessica Jarvis highlighted the Sparks rebounding effort, while Alessandra Filice ignited the Sparks offense. Leah Ailes and Emily Costa each scored four points for the Blazers.
Katelyn Nebesnick scored six points as the Monarchs defeated the Sonix 10-4. Demornay Granado added three Monarch markers. Sarah Lira and Jessica Quisquino each scored two Sonix points.
The Jazz stopped the Magic 16-0 behind eight points from Alyssa Lujan. Dani Hemeon provided four points and Jenae Robinson and Marisa Admadkhani sparked the Jazz defense.
Boys’ 3-4 Grade:
Greg Spellman struck for nine points, Louie Bonesio eight as the 5-0 Cavaliers trimmed the Sonics 31-22 Saturday.
Ryan Bay scored six points in the third period for the Cavs. Jordan Dexter scored seven points for the Sonics.
The 5-0 Cougars used 23 points from Ryan Alba to defeat the Warriors 35-21. The Warriors led 12-11 at the break. Bryant Cid drilled two Cougar 3-pointers. Stefan Marcer struck for nine points, Niko Fortino five for the Warriors. Austin Guerrero pulled down nine Warrior rebounds and Ian Benjamin played solid defense.
Steven Sandoval’s bucket with two seconds left in overtime earned the Kings a 17-15 win over the Celtics. Brandon Pickens made eight Kings points, Peter Hilkene 11 for the Celtics.
Brandon Irby hustled to eight points as the Raptors turned back the Gladiators 32-7.
Girls 3-4 Grade:
Kaylana Mah poured in 22 points as the Hot Shots (5-0) defeated the Rockets 36-16 Saturday at Wheeler Community Center.
Sarah Ordaz netted six points for the Hot Shots. Madalyn Cortese scored six Rocket points.
The Broncos moved to 4-1 with a 28-19 decision over the Monarchs. Sara Sauceda scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half. Daniella Sandoval scored eight points for the winners. Angelica Osaki anchored the Broncos defense. Ashley Williams popped in 13 points for the Monarchs.
