GHS girls golf scores season-best 158 at Twin Creeks GC
SALINAS – The scores keep getting lower and lower for the Gilroy High girls golf team – which registered a season-low 158 team score to win out Thursday at Twin Creeks Golf Club in Salinas.

“Gilroy played well today. The 158 is the lowest team score we have had at any course,” head coach Eric Kuwada said. “We worked on the short game yesterday at Eagle Ridge and it paid off.”

The Lady Mustang line-up was led by senior Andrea Hugo’s team-low 36 along with junior teammate Amy Kishimura’s 40 and a pair of 41s from junior Carissa Filice and sophomore Kristen Campos. In addition, senior Brittney Weber shot a 45 and Carla Navarro scored a 52.

“Amy chipped and putted well today. Andrea put together a solid round today. She had fun playing with Lindsey Sheen (of Salinas) who has been the medalist all season so far,” Kuwada said. “Lindsey is a really good golfer and Andrea was one stroke back. She proved to herself that she is capable of playing to that caliber and not being intimidated by her.”

Salinas finished in third place as team with a 172 as Hollister placed second with a 170 tally. Alvarez scored a 181 for fourth place and Live Oak was fifth with a 193 team mark.

“We are playing very well, much better than I expected,” said Kuwada, whose squad will return to Twin Creeks on Tuesday. “I think the girls are serious about doing well and that attitude is paying dividends by the low scoring we see at the matches.”
