Two down, one to go.
GILROY – Two down, one to go.

That’s the mentality of the Gilroy High field hockey team – which avenged another tie by defeating Carmel, 5-0, in Wednesday’s home match to follow up Tuesday’s 1-0 make-up win over York.

Up next, the Lady Mustangs (4-1-3) look to avenge a 1-1 tie to Monterey when they travel there for a Oct. 29 TCAL game.

In their latest blowout victory, the Lady Mustangs received goals from five different players. Sophomore Meg Perkins and junior Amanda Cooper scored for the first time this season, while senior co-captain Michell Morejon, junior Maday Garcia and freshman Karlie Sandoval also got on the scoresheet.

Junior Michelle Pirozzoli passed the player of the game honors over to senior teammate Diana Hovey – who made sure that Carmel left junior goalie Sam Sicard alone.

“We still have some work to do in order to prepare for next week’s away games in Monterey and RLS,” Coach Erin Gemar said. “We will concentrate on positioning, passing, back passing, and sweep hits into the goal. The defense has played strong this week and will continue to work on their ball control and drives up the field.”

RUMMAGE SALE: The Lady Mustangs will be hosting a fundraiser rummage sale Saturday on the corner of Princevalle and 10th Street from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Any donations can be brought down at 7 a.m.
