SANTA CATALINA – The Gilroy High field hockey team registered its second straight six-goal performance in last Thursday’s 6-1 triumph over Santa Catalina to lift its Tri-County Athletic League record to 2-1-3.

Senior forward Maday Garcia notched two goals and two assists to lead the Lady Mustang attack, while sophomore midfielder Shante Mancera (assist) was named Gilroy’s player of the game.

“We’re looking good. We’re excited about today’s game against North Salinas,” said co-head coach Adam Gemar, whose squad takes on the Lady Vikings at Gilroy High today at 3:30 p.m. “Everybody is picking it up. The ball handling and passing has been pretty phenomenal.”

After Garcia scored the opening two goals, junior teammate Selida Banuelas netted a goal off an assist from senior co-captain Sandra Aguayo and Mancera, and then junior forward Tracey Link extended to a 4-0 first-half lead with a goal off a feed from Garcia and Aguayo.

In the second half, freshman Karlie Sandoval scored a short corner goal with assists coming from senior co-captain Michelle Morejon and junior Amanda Cooper. The sixth Gilroy goal was scored by Morejon off a feed from Sandoval via Garcia.

Junior goalie Sam Sicard made two saves for the shutout.
