After struggling last week against San Jose City, West Valley and Cabrillo, the Gavilan College softball team rebounded to go 4-1 at the North State Shootout in Redding last weekend.

Picking up wins against Treasure Valley (5-1 win), Napa Valley (2-0), Seather River (3-1) and Redwoods (4-1), the Rams didn’t lose a game in the tournament until their final contest against Lassen. Gavilan was shutout 3-0.

“We turned it around,” manager Nikki Dequin said. “That last game (against Lassen) … we just didn’t push any runs across the plate.”

Despite the loss to Lassen, though, the Redding tournament was certainly a better ending to the week after Gavilan lost 5-0 to San Jose City College last Tuesday, 5-4 to West Valley on Wednesday and 5-3 to Cabrillo on Thursday.

Gavilan will look to avenge that loss today, Tuesday, as they host West Valley in Gilroy at 3 p.m.
