The Gilroy Historical Society is hosting an event featuring Valentin Lopez, tribal leader of the Amah Mutsun tribe. He will be speaking on a variety of topics: tribe before contact, mission period, Mexican period, early American period and early state and federal laws, era of Ascencion Solorsano, current day tribe.

The event is Jan. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gilroy Arts Alliance Building on Monterey Road. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.
