“Life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it.” Keeping this in mind, why do we insist on labeling people? We are raising our children to place people into categories based on skin color, gender, political preference and too many more to name. Social media and internet platforms only exacerbate the labeling by repeatedly showing images and making assumptions based on categories. Children believe that they are categorized and therefore cannot move out of their perceived categories and must view others as the enemy. This in turn puts everyone on the defensive when the reality is that we are all human beings doing our part to keep the earth in motion.

There will always be selfish, angry, amoral individuals as human beings are not perfect. It is our job to react to those individuals by teaching our children to not use any labels other than human.
