Dear Editor,

In my humble opinion, the shoot down by Mayor Al Pinheiro and Councilmen Dion Bracco, Bob Dillon and Perry Woodward of the expansive and big government Habitat Conservation Plan was a great shot. The last thing we need is more big government plans controlled by neo-conservationists.

Between this and the Open Space Authority, the government has been methodically wresting control of private property and restricting use of public lands because some bug might be endangered. Puhlease! Enough is enough.

Kudos to the adults on the Council who sided with reason and restraint unlike the children on the Council who jump at every fad to come down the pike.

I hope this is a trend that at least Gilroy cares more about life, liberty and property over bats, bugs and varmints.

Mark A. Zappa, Gilroy
