Having had a pleasant day at the Monterey Antique Store, my wife
and I got a late start back to Alameda. As dinner time approached,
we stopped at Black Bear Diner.

Having had a pleasant day at the Monterey Antique Store, my wife and I got a late start back to Alameda. As dinner time approached, we stopped at Black Bear Diner. We parked at the stall closest to the entrance. As we looked from our car to the bench about 25 feet from the restaurant, we saw a young couple. He was dressed in a tux and sneakers and the companion was dressed in her formal gown. They looked as though they were waiting for someone. So they sat down on the bench outside the restaurant.
As we moved toward the diner’s entrance, the boy in the tux and sneakers suddenly got up and beat us to the entrance of the diner. He opened the door but did not enter. He stepped aside and bid us to enter. He then returned to his companion dressed in a beautiful prom dress.
We hoped the rest of their evening would be pleasant. We felt this was a courteous act to two seniors he didn’t know. We greatly appreciated his gesture. I remarked to the cashier of this occurrence, and she remarked that the people of Gilroy are a wonderful group.
With that, we left the restaurant out the door opened for us by a middle-aged gentleman. Three cheers for Gilroy and the people who make it what it is.
