graduating class, her parents have always been very supportive of
us.
She is a multi-faceted creative jewel of a person. Thank you for
saluting her as a person of change with the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Award. She’s been a friend for 46 years
– and here’s to many more!

Close Fremont State Park? Please give us a break Gov. ‘Hollywood’
Dear Editor,
As a former resident of San Juan Bautista. I resent the California governor wanting to close Fremont State Park. Tell him to study the history of the park.
The American flag was not first raised in California in “HOLLYWOOD”. It was raised On “FREMONT PEAK”
I hope San Benito County Supervisor Anthony Botelho can help in keeping it a park.

Layoffs at South County Housing sparked ‘soul-forging’ at company
Dear Editor, 
In response to your article about our company’s recent layoffs, I think it would have been equally or more poignant to inquire on the availability of someone from the general staff to interview for the article and lend their view on how the market downturn has affected their particular lives, etc.
Speaking for myself, in spite of the sadness of seeing many of our co-workers laid off, there was a surge of cooperativeness and soul-forging that has surprised even the most cynics at heart.
Yes the layoffs were painful to watch and to some more traumatic than others; but there is certainty within all of us that these lean times will make us a better company, make us re-calibrate our focus as to what is fiscally non-essential, and in the end strengthen the pillars of our support.
Your article was well laid-out, crisp and to the point. I only wish more of a human element was exposed.

A thumbs up for common sense government: Yes on Prop 93
Dear Editor,
It’s not everyday that fiscal conservatives and environmentalists can agree, but they should agree to vote Yes on Proposition 93.
Our over-restrictive term limits practically eliminate the Legislature’s ability to exercise fiscal oversight of state agencies, because legislators are termed out soon after they have mastered the inner workings of the state bureaucracy.
Environmentalists should consider AB 32 – the Global Warming Solutions Act. The experienced green team of legislators who made AB 32 happen won’t be around during the critical early years of implementation.
Prop. 93 shortens the maximum time a legislator can serve from 14 years to 12, but allows that time to be spent all in the Assembly or Senate, or any combination. Vote Yes on 93, Feb. 5.
