The owner of a Morgan Hill liquor store who was arrested Aug. 2 for selling drugs out of his shop will appear in court for a preliminary hearing at the San Martin Courthouse Friday. A spokesperson from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office said the hearing will likely be continued.
On Oct. 9, Jun Kim, 32, owner of Simple Beverages on Monterey Road at the corner of Third Street, pleaded not guilty to three felonies and four misdemeanors, according to Amy Cornell of the D.A.’s office. He is charged with six drug-related offenses, including possession of a controlled substance for sale, and driving while unlicensed.
Kim is currently in custody at the Santa Clara County Jail, with bail set at $49,000.
On Aug. 2, Morgan Hill police arrested Kim, a San Jose resident, while he was driving just outside the liquor store he owned downtown. Officers, who had been staking out his place of business for two months on suspicion of drug activity, gained permission from Kim to search the store. They found a shotgun, more than 1,000 plastic baggies, 142 pipes that could be used for smoking methamphetamine, 20 Vicodin pills, marijuana, cocaine, a switchblade knife, a handgun, bullets, a taser and a stun baton, according to police.
Kim’s attorney, Alex Park, contacted by telephone, declined to comment on the case.
