A preliminary analysis of proposed routes for the California High-Speed Rail through South County offered few surprises when it was released Thursday.

The analysis recommends that study continue of both the Monterey Highway/Union Pacific Railroad corridor and U.S. 101 corridor options between Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Stations were proposed for either Leavesley Road east of U.S. 101 or in downtown Gilroy near the Caltrain station. The study also recommended continued study of both a trench and aerial structure options through downtown Gilroy. High-speed rail officials discussed seven routes that used those alignments during a study session at Gilroy City Council chambers in May.

The analysis was based on feedback from more than 100 meetings with community leaders, local officials and residents, according to high-speed rail officials.

“We are pleased that so many people have come forward and helped shape this project so it will serve their needs and be a good neighbor to communities along the route and we will continue to listen to their feedback as this project moves forward,” said Curt Pringle, chairman of the California High-Speed Rail Authority.
