Gilroy students help collect 800 pounds of food
In the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, Gilroy residents Dawson Bean and Jacob Diaz, students at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, helped collect more than 800 pounds of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
All donations were collected in four teams, which encouraged friendly competition. Each day, as the stacks of boxes and cans in the classrooms grew taller, the excitement increased.
Bible teacher Rod Stanton, who coordinated the event, said, “Dawson and Jacob gave from their hearts to help those in need. It’s wonderful to see them put their faith into action.”
Second Harvest Food Bank provides assistance to about 43,000 families, seniors and children every month.
