Neighborhood Watch forming on Forest Street

Gilroy – Residents of Forest Street in northeast Gilroy are invited Tuesday to the inaugural meeting of the Neighborhood Watch.

The meeting will be held next to 8050 Forest St., near South Valley Middle School, at 6:15pm.

Those who attend will meet staff members of the city and the Gilroy Police Department, discuss problems in the neighborhood and potential solutions, and talk about community clean-up.

Light snacks will be provided at the start of the meeting, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Last day to audition for ‘Oz’

Gilroy – The Gilroy Community Services Department and Rainbow Children’s Theatre will hold their final audition for “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” Saturday for their fall show.

‘Inspecting Carol’ auditions

Gilroy – Auditions for the holiday comedy “Inspecting Carol” will be held Sept. 9 at 7:30pm and Sept. 10 at 10am for actors age 16 and up. The play will be Nov. 18, 19, 25, 26 and 27 and Dec. 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10. Auditioners should prepare a one- to two-minute monologue and should arrive half an hour early.

Native American Storytelling

Gilroy – Chitactac-Adams County Park presents Native American Storytelling Friday, Sept. 9, from 6:30 to 8pm. Become immersed in the rich culture of native California through stories and legends from the past.

Meet at the amphitheater at 6:30. Food and drinks are welcome, but pets are not permitted.

Historical Society meeting and BBQ

Gilroy – The Historical Society will hold their annual meeting an pot luck barbecue from noon to 3pm Saturday, at Solis Winery, 3920 Hecker Pass Highway. Lunch of tri-tip will be served.

The winery will provide atmosphere, shade, tables and chairs. Following the meeting, there will be opportunity for a tour of the winery and, of course, wine tasting.
