Mayor to talk housing at monthly gathering

The public is invited to join Mayor Marie Blankley for Conversation and Coffee on March 4 at 9:30am in the Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna St.

Blankley will be joined by Community Development Director Sharon Goei to discuss housing production in Gilroy and efforts to support long-term housing stability and affordability.

State of the City returns March 16

The Gilroy Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual State of the City Dinner on March 16 from 5:30-7:30pm at Old City Hall Restaurant, 7400 Monterey St.

Mayor Marie Blankley will give an update on where Gilroy was last year and what’s in store for the city this year.

Admission is $45 and includes dinner. A cash bar will be available.

CHP offering senior driver safety class

The Hollister-Gilroy California Highway Patrol Office is holding a free “Age Well, Drive Smart” senior driver safety class at the Gilroy Library on March 17 at 10:30am.

This program is designed as an educational tool for mature drivers. Topics of discussion will include:

• How to tune up driving skills

• Refreshing knowledge of the rules of the road

• Learning about normal, age-related physical changes and how to adjust to them

• When it may be time to limit or stop driving

• Understanding the alternatives to driving

This class is geared toward drivers age 65 and up, but is open to anyone interested in this safety information.

Local recognized at Emerson College

Emerson College student Cade Mallett of Gilroy earned Dean’s List honors for the Fall 2022 Semester.

The requirement to make the Dean’s List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

Mallett is majoring in Business Creative Enterprises and is a member of the Class of 2026.

Emerson College is based in Boston, Mass.

Gilroyan honored at Coastal Carolina University

More than 2,700 undergraduate students at Coastal Carolina University were named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2022 semester, including Jack Tomlinson from Gilroy. 

Students who make the Dean’s List have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Coastal Carolina University is a public liberal arts institution located in Conway, located near the resort area of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Weymouth named to Dean’s List at University of Maryland

Thomas Weymouth of Gilroy was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). 

To be eligible for the honor, a student must have completed at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term, and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.
