Historic walking tour set for Monterey Street

The Gilroy Historical Society’s Monthly Walking Tours begin with a look at Monterey Street on Jan. 2.

The last URM building is being fixed and many historic buildings remain, including the Louis Hotel.  

Meet at the Gilroy Museum, 195 Fifth St. at 10am for the walking tour. Wear a mask and plan to distance.

Donations are accepted.

The tours are held the first Saturday of the month at 10am. For information, call the Gilroy Museum at 408.846.0446.

Leadership Gilroy accepting applications

Leadership Gilroy is now accepting applications for its 2021 program.

In the 10-month program, which runs January through October, participants develop leadership and team-building skills, gain a deeper understanding of the local community, and design a service project.

More than 250 have graduated from the program since its first class in 1998.

Museum collecting pandemic photos, stories

The Gilroy Museum is creating a record of the Covid-19 pandemic, and is looking to the public for submissions.

Photographs can include social distance signs and empty shelves at stores, businesses that are shuttered due to the pandemic, Gilroyans working from home and more.

The museum is also looking for stories of anyone who has had the virus or has known someone who died from it, as well as stories from those who do not think the pandemic is real.For information, visit gilroyhistoricalsociety.org.
