Dear Editor,
In response to my call to reject proposed state tax hikes, local socialist Marjorie Apel says that she is amazed by the space given to my “rants.” My previous letter preceded the November election, which in the 70-day framework is far less “space” than at least three other writers.
Maybe only those opinions contrary to Apel are to be monitored. A “rant,” by definition, is spoken, not written; maybe I need to consult the revisionist, socialist dictionary. She then states, “(My) facts are incorrect as to the third highest tax rate and the deepest in debt.”
California, at a budget shortfall of $25 billion, is the deepest, all thanks to the socialist state legislature. I admit error on the ranking, though: We are the fourth-highest at 110 days (Tax Freedom Day, 2009). If Comrade Apel had her way, we would undoubtedly rank first (our rank on sales tax, the highest rate in the country).
