This week, police responded to several reports of assault, child abuse and drug crimes. Here are a few standout events.
Arrested for trespassing, again
After being arrested several times already this year, 30-year-old Gilroy resident, Daniel Pacheco, was arrested at 8:56 a.m. on July 9 for trespassing and probation violation after police allegedly found him lying in a detached garage on the 100 block of Martin Street. Pacheco has had prior trespassing arrests, according to Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao. He was taken to jail for the trespassing and probation violation.
Man allegedly bases teens with baseball bat
At 10:11 p.m. on July 9, Luis Figueroa, 44 of Gilroy, approached a 16-year old-male and a 14-year-old male at Sunrise Park on Saddler Drive, accusing them of throwing firecrackers at his residence. Figueroa shouted profanities and allegedly beat both juveniles with a baseball bat. Victims did not require immediate medical assistance. Figueroa was arrested for assault and taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
DUI car crash
Delia Centeno, 61, was arrested for driving under the influence after she allegedly drove her 2008 red Mini Cooper into a tractor on Camino Arroyo and Pacheco Pass Highway at 2:18 a.m. on July 10. She was taken to Santa Clara County Jail and released with a court date.
Man arrested for possession of methamphetamines
Larry Lucero, 45-year-old Gilroy resident, was arrested for possession of eight grams of methamphetamines at 1:01 a.m. on July 13. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Anonymous bag of drugs found on street
At 2:57 p.m. on July 13, police found a bag on Mantelli Drive with 3.76 grams of methamphetamines, less than a gram of marijuana, a glass meth pipe, a digital scale, plastic bags, cotton swabs and three car keys. Police are investigating who the bag belonged to, but have made no arrests yet.
Man allegedly hits his son
At 5 p.m. on July 13, Gilroy resident Hector Bernal was arrested for allegedly striking his son several times on the face, causing injuries. The child and his two siblings were taken into protective custody, and Bernal was taken to Santa Clara County Jail. The boy endured moderate but non life-threatening injuries. Police and child protective services are investigating the allegation of child abuse.
