Detectives arranged a meeting Tuesday with Michael Evans, 28, of Morgan Hill, at the Starbucks coffee shop near East Dunne Avenue and Walnut Grove Drive, Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said.
Evans was under investigation for allegations of sexual assault, and is on probation for an assault with a deadly weapon conviction, Neumayer said. Police wanted to meet with Evans to discuss the allegations. During the meeting, about 4:45 p.m. Evans ran from officers, possibly for fear that he might be arrested, police said.
Evans ran toward the U.S. 101 off-ramp to East Dunne Avenue and officers followed him, Neumayer said. As he crossed the freeway ramp he was hit by a passing automobile and suffered moderate injuries including a large cut on his forehead.
Evans was detained and transported to an area hospital.
