A woman walking by Church Street and Welburn Avenue was beaten for an unknown reason by a man who fled on a bicycle, police said.

A man in a gray hooded sweatshirt lunged at the woman on the 8300 block of Church Street after coming from behind a wall along Welburn Avenue at 5:37 p.m. April 27, according to the sergeants Jim Gillio and Wes Stanford of the Gilroy Police Department.

The suspect then punched the woman in the face and about her body several times before riding off on a bicycle, Gillio said. The attacker did not steal anything from the woman, who said she had never seen the suspect before, Gillio said.

The suspect is described as a black male adult, who is about five feet, eight inches and 230 pounds.
