Dear Editor:
It is fantastic to read about Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, Gilroy’s own North American Boxing Federation featherweight champion, who visited and gave an inspirational talk to the fine children of Glen View School.
Watching the bright, delightful faces of the children as “The Ghost” spoke was enlightening. Thanks and praise to Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and his manager for entertaining the youth last Thursday afternoon. Also, please acknowledge the following people for their contribution to this exciting event:
n Barbara Gailey for raising more than $1,500 to assist the teachers at the school for supplies lost from the recent school fire. She has love and affection for this school.
n Art Barron and Victor Frias, president and vice president of Gilroy Eigleberry Neighborhood Association, for brainstorming the idea and putting the event into action. They desire the best for their community and others.
n The Ganas Team – Joanne Rivera, Juan Bazan and Yvette Robeles, project coordinator and outreach educators, respectively – for their assistance and sponsoring over 500 ice cream cups for the entire school. They support youth and community development with a passion.
n City of Gilroy, Housing and Community Development Department, for supporting and assisting Gilroy neighborhoods in staging the event and obtaining the ice cream. They are here to serve and foster a brighter Gilroy.
And finally to Glen View’s Principal Marilyn Ayala and her staff for allowing “The Ghost” and the above partners to bring the event to the wonderful children there. They have the right stuff and spirit to create future champions.
Daniel J. Chavez, Gilroy
