Richard Rodriguez, the Luigi Aprea Elementary principal, greets customers at the McDonald’s at 797 First St. in Gilroy. McTeacher’s Night, a fundraising event designed to provide financial support to local schools, was held April 20. Rodriguez and teachers greeted customers, manned the registers, helped prepare food and received a percentage of the evening’s sales. The owners of the First Street McDonald’s, Steve and Jan Peat, donated $1,100 to Luigi Aprea Elementary during the event.
“We are grateful for McDonald’s efforts to support our school, especially in times of dramatic budget cuts and serious threats to education,” Rodriguez said. “It was quite an experience working the drive-thru window, and the kids were beside themselves with excitement when they saw their principal and teachers working at McDonald’s.”
