Jason Conrad is living the dream.
The former Gilroy High and Chico State basketball player signed with ZZ Leiden, a professional team in Holland, on Aug.3. If that wasn’t life changing enough, Conrad also got married on Aug. 10.
“It’s a dream come true. Everything has come true,” Conrad said of becoming a pro baller and husband.
Conrad has never been to Holland before, but said he’s excited for the opportunity to live in a new country and experience a new culture — all while playing for Holland’s top team.
ZZ Leiden has won the national championship two times in the last three years, including this year when it swept Leeuwarden.
Conrad, who towers over his teammates at 7 feet tall, will be ZZ Leiden’s starting center and will be joined by two other American players in the team’s starting rotation.
Last season, Conrad lead Chico State in free-throw percentage. He averaged 6.2 points a game in 29 games with the Wildcats. Conrad said he’s looking to continue his success with ZZ Leiden and hopefully help the team to another championship.
“I’m excited,” Conrad said. “I’m just going to go over there and work as hard as I can and go from there.”
Conrad and his new wife leave for Holland on Aug. 29.
