DEAR EDITOR:

I am getting ready to leave for college and I just wanted to thank Dispatch Sports Editor Scott Forstner very much for the coverage of the softball team the last couple of years.

I also wanted to thank all the people that helped me to get where I am going. Starting off with my little league coaches Bobby Barbosa, Joey Gonzalez, Fred Torres, Mike Sanchez, Jose Melendrez, and Santos Garcia – who I started playing with on a more competitive level with the Gilroy Hotshots, the local traveling team.

Thanks to these coaches who showed me the basics and fundamentals of the game. They also taught me teamwork and how to work hard on and off the field.

I would also like to thank Bob Ligon for taking me to the next level in more competitive softball with the Salinas Storm.

There are so many people that helped me to get where I am, people like Kenny Gardener, my pitching coach and mentor who made a pitcher out of me and gave me words of encouragement and advice to keep me going when I felt like I was failing; Ken Shuck, Keith Burg, who exposed me to all the college scouts and made me a better hitter; Marti Dillion, all the high school coaches, Frank Reyes, Julie Berggren and Byron Bunten and Joey Gonzales for keeping us hydrated during the games and keeping us down to earth; and all my teammates that made the season unforgettable.

I also want to thank Lino and the Shockers for giving me a chance to coach younger girls who have the same dreams that I had at their age … I would like to keep in touch with them and asked them to e-mail me to let me know about their progress. My e-mail address is Jaykat21 @aol.com.

I would also like to thank all the fans that supported and cheered for us for the last four years. No matter if we lost or won, they were here for us.

And finally, I would like to thank all the sponsors that helped me financially. When I asked for donations, they didn’t turn me down and thanks to all of you I’m going to play college ball. And make my dream come true.
