The Nationals defeated the Cardinals 6-4 improving their playoff
record to 4-1 to advance to the National League Minor Division
finals tonight against the Giants.
The Nationals defeated the Cardinals 6-4 improving their playoff record to 4-1 to advance to the National League Minor Division finals tonight against the Giants.

Jayson Hickman had a game-winning two-RBI single in the top of the fifth for the Nationals. Darren Santos had an RBI single, and Brendan Reimer hit a single for the Nationals.

Darren Santos pitched two innings for the Nationals, striking out three and allowing two earned runs. Ryan Citti closed out the game, pitching three innings, striking out two and allowing no earned runs.

Defense played a big part in this win for the Nationals. Citti made five plays in the field, three from second and two at pitcher, including a pickoff at first with first baseman Jayson Hickman putting on the tag. Darren Santos made two plays in the field, one at pitcher and one at catcher. Brendan Reimer got an out at shortstop, and Hickman was busy at first with one putout and four assists. Ben Reeder ended the game with a beautiful catch on a high pop up to third.

“Our boys are thrilled to be heading into the finals,” said Nationals manager Chad Reeder. “These boys have come along way from the beginning of the season. We’re all very proud of them.”

Nationals 11, Cubs 6

The Nationals defeated the Cubs in the quarterfinals, pounding out seven hits. Brendan Reimer had a three-RBI bases loaded triple as well and a double. Mikey DeJesus had a two-RBI double.Jeremiah Mireles had an RBI single, and Jayson Hickman also added an RBI on a sacrifice. Darren Santos was a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles.

Brendan Reimer pitched 4 1/3 innings, striking out six and allowing no earned runs. Ryan Citti closed out the game, pitching 1 2/3 innings striking out two and allowing no earned runs.

Jayson Hickman playing first base and made or was part of making seven of the 10 outs in the field. He had 7 plays, four by himself and three assists. Brendan Reimer completed four outs, three as pitcher and one at shortstop. Citti made four plays at second.
