Gavilan College Community and Contract Education, in partnership
with Boston Reed College, will be offering a veterinary assistant
training course. Students will learn how to assist veterinarians
and technicians in their daily tasks.
Gavilan College Community and Contract Education, in partnership with Boston Reed College, will be offering a veterinary assistant training course. Students will learn how to assist veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks.

Students will learn proper handling and procedures for examination of pets for signs of illness, disease or injury through practical training. The cource combines 35-hours of classroom instruction with a recommended 24-hour externship. Students will receive a certificate of completion when they graduate. The course is five weeks, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday starting April 9. The externship would involve volunteer work outside of class. The course is $1,099, and includes textbooks, course materials and certificate completion.

To apply, students should be 18 years old and a high school graduate or equivalent. Students should be proficient in keyboarding, have a basic understanding of a word processing computer program – Microsoft Word recommended – and a command of English grammar and punctuation. Starting pay for vet assistants is $10-15 an hour.
