California Highway Patrol reminds motorists not to drink and drive
With the approach of Super Bowl Sunday, the CHP wants to remind motorists about the dangers of drinking and driving.
“Driving under the influence is a persistent problem,” said CHP Commissioner Mike Brown. “It causes needless and tragic loss of life every year. Prevention is simple. Designate a sober driver and arrive alive.”
There were 214 alcohol involved collisions statewide last year on Super Bowl Sunday, drinking and driving played a role in the deaths of five people on California roads and 468 people were arrested for driving under the influence.
To keep impaired drivers off the road, the CHP is encouraging motorists to report drunk drivers by dialing 911 and giving the location and direction the suspected drunken driver is traveling.
