More than a year after 14-year-old Tara Romero was mistakenly gunned down on city streets, the attorney for one defendant has filed a mental incompetency claim with the court, a move that continues to delay the proceedings and any closure for the families involved.

A San Jose attorney says the Gilroy Police Department Anti Crime Team ignored provisions in the Medical Marijuana Program Act when officers raided a sophisticated, 6,000 square foot indoor pot garden Sunday in an industrial building on the 5900 block of Obata Way in Gilroy.

Four suspects were arrested for marijuana cultivation at 9:30 p.m. Sunday on the 5900 block of Obata Way in Gilroy as they were leaving the "indoor garden," police described in a press release sent out today.

Gilroy Police and Fire personnel responded at 11:50 p.m. Saturday to an attempted homicide at the the Longhouse Restaurant, located at 8195 Monterey Road.

Car wreck on U.S. 101 in south Gilroy

Authorities responded to a single-vehicle traffic accident that slowed traffic on U.S. 101 Friday afternoon, with minor injuries reported. 

SWAT team surrounds Gilroy home

The Gilroy Police Department arrested a suspected burglar on the 6400 block of Barron Place in Gilroy on Friday. GPD were notified of an intruder entering the house at 10:15 a.m. by a concerned neighbor, said Gilroy Police Sgt. Daniel Castaneda. GPD officers and a SWAT team surrounded the house and ordered the suspect to leave the property.

UPDATE: County supervisor resigns, citing criminal charges

Santa Clara County Supervisor George Shirakawa announced he will resign from office, citing his intention to plead guilty to charges filed by authorities Friday related to Shirakawa’s failure to file campaign finance reports and “inappropriate use of (his) county credit card,” according to a resignation letter he submitted Friday morning.
