Charges dismissed against handyman kidnapping suspect

One man originally implicated in the bizarre kidnapping of a handyman in Morgan Hill last month is off the hook for the crime, while the other two suspects remain in custody awaiting further court proceedings. 

Former GUSD Board of Ed. trustee will appear in court Tuesday

Francisco Dominguez, a former Gilroy Unified School District trustee who is charged with two counts of felony grand theft after he allegedly embezzled more than $52,000 from a leading South County social services agency, will appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Dept. 23 of the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

Winter DUI arrests continue to drop

As a part of this winter holiday season’s enhanced DUI enforcement period, officers in Santa Clara County arrested 432 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Of these arrests, 63 were made by Gilroy and Morgan Hill police.

Neighbors weigh in on New Year’s Eve homicide

The Gilroy Police Department received multiple calls around 9:33 p.m. Monday regarding a subject who had been shot near Old Gilroy and Alexander streets. Officers arrived at the scene and located the victim lying in the middle of the street, according to a GPD press release.

Gilroy Police Officers responded to an armed robbery at 7:39 p.m. Sunday at the Gavilan Market, located at 8110 Westwood Drive in Gilroy.

Drunk driver crashes into tree near elementary school

On Friday at 7:20 p.m., Billy Gidding, 31, was arrested for driving under the influence after losing control of his 1994 Chevrolet truck and careening into a tree on Wren Avenue near Antonio Del Buono Elementary School. Gilroy police arrested Gidding, who was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.

9Lives owner arraigned on embezzlement, grand theft

The owner of a downtown Gilroy concert house and former executive director of the Morgan Hill Downtown Association was arraigned on charges of embezzlement and grand theft at the South County Courthouse Friday.
