Bernice was a native of Redwood City, and moved to Hollister as a child with her parents Attilio and Venuta Guerra. She was a graduate of San Benito High School. Bernice was a homemaker most of her life; a member of Sacred Heart Parish; belonged to The Swiss Club and enjoyed attending their functions in Greenfield. "Working in her garden was her number one activity", said her daughters; in addition to the time she spent with her grandchildren, helping others who need assistance, traveling throughout Europe and Alaska, baking cookies in her spare time, and attending the cooking classes at the former Dorothy McNetts's.
