Jack M. Schachleiter
Jack M. Schachleiter passed away in Gilroy at the Village Green Residence on Friday, May 28th, 2010, age the age of 90 years. Jack was a native of Youngstown, OH; came to California at the age of five with his parents who settled in Long Beach. He lived in Long Beach, graduated from Long Beach Poly-Hi; attended University Of California at Davis until July 1942 when he entered the U. S. Army. He served three years in the European Theater as a paratrooper and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Jack made one last jump in honor of his 75 birthday. Upon his discharge Jack settled in the Merced/Tulare area until his retirement in 1973. He was the owner/broker of the S.I.A. (Schachleiter Insurance Agency). Upon his move to Cayucos he still served many of his clients, but devoted a greater percentage of his time to the game of golf. He was the last member of the Davie's Street (Cayucos) Slushi-Lushies; belonged to the B.P.O.E. of San Luis Obispo, the American Legion Post No. 1000 of Morro Bay, and the Leslie L. Garratt Post No 6459 V.F.W. of San Juan Bautista.
