Great Gatsby in Gilroy

In the tradition of the excessive parties thrown by Jay Gatsby—the character from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby—The Gilroy Foundation named its 27th annual dinner and auction held on Saturday Oct. 1, after that famous book and encouraged guests to indulge and give generously. The Gilroy Foundation has been raising funds for local charities, and scholarships for local students since 1980.

DUI Driver Sentenced to 14 Years in Deaths of Four Passengers

 A man who was driving under the influence and killed four Gilroy residents--three of them in high school--was sentenced to 14 years in prison this week.

Velasco Leads in Donations

Roland Velasco has raised 20 percent more in campaign funds than Perry Woodward in his bid to be elected Gilroy’s next mayor. According to FPPC filings posted by the city clerk to Gilroy’s website, Velasco has raised $44,194 to Woodward’s $35,899 as of Sept 24.
