Stories of the year: A look back at 2012
In the leap year that was 2012, tragedy turned to hope, sadness questioned pride, outrage preserved inaction, fear gripped the earth and bewilderment seemed to multiply itself many times over in Gilroy and South Santa Clara County.

Former GUSD Board of Ed. trustee will appear in court Tuesday
Francisco Dominguez, a former Gilroy Unified School District trustee who is charged with two counts of felony grand theft after he allegedly embezzled more than $52,000 from a leading South County social services agency, will appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Dept. 23 of the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

Legion commander: City talked of closing veterans building
The city’s financial situation with the Veterans Memorial Building is so dire, Hollister officials have talked of possibly closing the historic facility, said the commander of the local American Legion chapter involved in discussions to potentially manage it.
New immunization law requires parents to make “informed decisions”
On Sep. 30 Gov. Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 2109 into law which, as of Jan. 1, 2014, requires all California parents who do not have their children immunized to read information about the benefits and risks of immunizations. Parents must sign a waiver from a physician or a nurse practitioner stating they have received that information, before they will be allowed to enroll their children in school.
