Mamie Sgheiza passed away peacefully at her home which she occupied for 62 years. Born in 1912 to Alfred and Zaria Maraccini she attended local schools and worked for Filice and Perelli Cannery. Later she worked for Star Millinery, Letha's Dress Shop, and Clark's Jewelers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Al Sgheiza, sister Lena Defreese, sister-in-laws Helen Bonino and Annie Sgheiza. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Sciutto, Husband George, grandchildren, Elizabeth Robinson (Rich), Jennifer Freese (Alan) and Darrell Sciutto. Great grandchildren Dustin Robinson, Nicholas Robinson, Amanda Morrell and Shelby and Jack Freese. Nieces and nephews Elaine Bonino, Louie Bonino and Donald Bonino.
Ronald Steven Nelson was born September 3rd, 1951 to Walter and Lilah Nelson. He will be missed dearly by his parents, Walter and Lilah; his wife of 36 years, Debbie; his two daughters Britni Brindle, and Megan Nelson; his brother, Scott Nelson, his wife Chris and their children, Angelica, Jason and David; and numerous Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and friends.He is also survived by his favorite cutting horse "Miss Geevus Doc".
EMMA M. MORETTI 91, passed away Friday, September 2, 2011 at Santa Teresa Hospital, San Jose. Wife of the late Pete Moretti (1994). Sister of Eleanor Roberts of Gilroy. Aunt of Lorayne (Craig) Simmons of Gilroy, Doris (Matt) Fanoe of Marietta, GA and Barbara Rocchi. Great-aunt of Nick Rocchi, Kevin, Gregory and Andrew Fanoe, Adrea and Corin Simmons. Great-great aunt of Sofia and Joseph Fanoe. Cousin of Jacque Chesnut, Kim Chesnut Perry, Alli and Ricky Perry. Also survived by many dear friends.
Born in New Idria, CA of Basque Parents, Hermenegildo Casabona Asin and Teresa Athine Asin. Lifelong resident of San Benito County. Attended local schools and graduated from San Benito High School, Class of 1939. As a young woman she helped run the family boarding house in Hollister and Panoche, where she often translated for many of the residents. Jennie married her first husband Frank Mendez in 1942 and for seventeen years they owned and operated the Panoche Inn as well as farming, raising cattle and sheep. In 1958 the family moved into Hollister where Frank and Jennie owned various orchards until Frank's retirement in 1975. Following Franks passing, Jennie married her second husband, Harry A. Hill. They were married for almost 30 years until Harry's passing in January 2010.
Kenneth W. "Kenny" Bautista passed away at his residence Monday, Sept. 5th at the age of 62 years with his family by his side. Kenny was a native of Gilroy, CA; a graduate of Gilroy High school, Class 1967, a Vietnam Veteran serving with the US Army; a 25 year resident of San Benito County, a machine operator for Gilroy Foods for 30 years; a member of Teamsters Union Local 890 of Salinas, the Bolado Park Golf Club, and the Mission San Juan Bautista Parish. Kenny enjoyed traveling to the casinos with his family. "Kenny was a great husband, father, and grandfather. His pride and joy was being with his granddaughter Marissa", said his wife Emily. Emily and Kenny would have been married 37 years this Sept. 21st. Besides Emily and Marissa, Kenny is survived by his sons Anthony and Steven Bautista; his brothers Larry, Terry, and Rocky; sisters Michelle, Tessie, Patsy, and Beverly; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His brother Ricky predeceased him. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 11th at the Grunnagle Funeral Home chapel from 12:00 noon until 8:30 P.M. with the rosary offered at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 A.M. at the mortuary chapel followed by interment at San Juan District Cemetery with honors provided by the Hollister Post 9242, V.F.W.
