Two hundred and twenty nine years ago, our nation's founders convened at the second Continental Congress and unanimously passed the Declaration of Independence. On the eve of our Independence Day celebrations – and with American soldiers fighting a war on foreign soil – we offer the words that form the foundation of our country.
