JEERS: For the Gilroyans who flout the law and set off illegal fireworks. Remember – every time you set off an illegal firework you are jeopardizing the sale and use of fireworks in the city.

Ever since a 12-year-old boy was mauled to death by his own family's pit bulls, the state has been considering legislation to allow cities and counties to enact breed-specific ordinances affecting dogs.

Welcome to beautiful downtown Gilroy? That's not the warm fuzzy feeling you get if you park in the private section of the Fifth Street parking lot. If you are unable to park there because the owners have it chained off (not the welcome mat we recommend), you might save a bundle of money.
